Gold Medal Winners

The Punjab Sports Department gives a cash incentive of Rs. 5000/- each to all those such sportsman / women who win gold medals in the National Women Championships and All India Rural Sports. The year wise breakup of number of those sports persons and the amount given as award money is as below :-

CASH AWARDS TO SPORTS PERSONS
Pension to Vetern Sportspersons

The Punjab Govt., Department of Sports provides pension to eminent veteran sportsmen who have excelled at International level during their youth and made the nation proud. Keeping in view their hard work and service to the nation, a pension of Rs. 1000/- per month is provided to the participants of Olympics/World Cup and Rs. 600/- per month to the participants of Asian Games/Commonwealth Games. At present 125 veteran sportsmen are benefitted from this scheme. There is a proposal to review the rates in the near future.

After the death of the pensioner, this benefit is given to the widow / minor child / children of the pensioner.


Cash Incentives:-

The Punjab Govt., Deptt. of Sports framed a 'Cash Award Policy' on 2 June 2007, to encourage sportspersons to excel at National & International level. The cash award is provided to the medal winners of Olympic, Asian, Common Wealth Games & National Games etc. The deptt. provided cash incentive amounting to Rs. 1.00 crore to Mr. Abhinav Bindra who won maiden individually Gold Medal in Beijing Olympics-2008. The Deptt. also provided cash incentives to below mentioned players and their coach for excellent performance in Beijing Olympics-2008:

The Deptt. has shortlisted 17 players to be provided Cash Award for the year 2007-08 & 2008-09. They will be provided an amount of Rs. 52.65 lacs as Cash Award very shortly. Applications for the year 2009-10 have also been invited by the Deptt.


Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award

The Department of Sports/Punjab State Sports Council confers upon state's highest sports award, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award to eminent sportspersons of the state. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1.00 lacs, a scroll and a statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Till date 237 sportspersons have been conferred upon this Award. The Govt. has also decided to present Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award to eligible players for the year 2005 to 2008, in the near future.
